Some Straight Talk About Costs.....

(If you're talking to another vendor, we suggest you email us and we'll send you, free, a Web site costing checklist to take with you as a guide for discussion about your site. If your prospective vendor doesn't give you straight talk, call or email us...we want to work with you, and we're upfront from the very start.)

There's no question about it....."How much does it cost?" is probably one of the very first questions that arises when talking about putting up a Web site.

Unfortunately, the answer to the question is the same as the answer to the question, ``How much does a house cost?" — and that answer, of course, is, ``It all depends".

Depends on what? We hope this brief discussion will help you get a handle on the cost of a  site  that's right for your business. We also have some ``semi custom" packages  that give you many of the benefits of a totally customized solution together with the savings of  ``off-the-shelf" components.

As a matter of fact, we recommend the the ``package" approach as the ideal way to get your site up quickly and economically. We think you'll be surprised at how flexible this route can be.

And, of course, any package can be quickly modified for a perfect fit, any time...one size doesn't fit all!

Web Site Cost Factors

The cost of a Web site breaks down into three major categories.......

  • Setting Up The Site — Development Factors
  • Keeping the Site Fresh — Maintenance and Enhancements
  • Delivery to the Desktop — Site Hosting and Browser Issues

So What's The Bottom Line — A (Mythical) ``Typical" Web Site

Consider a ``typical"(there's really no thing!) Web site. The site is projected to have 10 pages of text, each page with a custom logo, 12 product photos from existing, scannable art, and a customer response form. We estimate that we'll get about 5000 hits a month. What would be the tab for such a site?

First, the development costs ( a la carte):

Text pages

10 @ $250

$2500.00

Custom logo

1 @ $250

$ 250.00

Scannable photos

12 @ $50

$ 600.00

Response form

1 @ $250

$ 250.00

Total development

$3600.00

Then, there's the ``running costs" to think about — site maintenance, server rental, and the like — which are hard to quantify exactly; for a site this size, figure $500/month. But we have a way to take out the uncertaintanty — INFTEK Site Packages.

This site drops perfectly into the INFTEK WebPresence Silver package, so the actual development cost would be $3000.00 (there'd also be some 3rd-party charges — the InterNIC registration fee, server setup, etc. — of about $500) and monthly costs for hosting and maintenance would be $350.00.

Surprised? It's THAT inexpensive? Ready to cost out YOUR site? Let's Talk!
